Leatherworking is a craft that has been around for centuries and has a wide variety of applications in everyday life.
Based in Central Queensland I have been doing leatherworking for several years. The items that I create are all handmade using as many Australian Made products as possible, including the leather.
Leather Belt Workshop
In this hands-on workshop, local leather artisan Robert Read will take you through the basics of creating a leather belt. At the end of the day, you will have completed your own 38mm full grain leather belt that will only get better with age, developing a deep, luxurious patina as only leather can.
From selecting the right piece of leather, to what hardware and tools you need, to getting the perfect measurements, you will learn everything you need to know for crafting handmade leather belts. You will try your hands at punching holes in leather, burnishing edges and setting rivets.
This workshop includes full grain leather in your choice of brown or black, a half buckle, finishes, materials and the use of tools.
No previous experience is required.
This course is for people 18 years and older.

Leatherworking has interested me for many years, the feel, the smell, it is a very tactile material.
Did you know that leather is a recycled material? If it wasn't for the fact that leather is used for making products with, either practical or decorative applications, over 7 million tonnes of hides would end up as refuse and landfill around the world.
The leather that I use is Australian sourced and Australian tanned where possible.
I am proud to be supporting Australian Made.
I have a range of handmade leather items available for purchase and I am happy to work with you on custom orders too.
